:: HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (HDPE) CONSTRUCTION ::
With the expanding application of Industrial Thermoplastics, Butt Fusion (Field Joining of Polyethylene Pipe) and Hot Gas (Air)Extrusion Welding are the two principal methods in the fabrication of HDPE products. Our highly trained technicians fabricate HDPE components for the simplest dock designs to the most complex industrial applications.
The Principle of Heat Fusion is to heat two surfaces to a designated temperature, then fuse them together with sufficient force. This force causes the melted material to flow and mix, thereby resulting in a fusion. When fused according to the proper procedures, the joint area becomes as strong as or stronger than the pipe itself in both tensile and pressure properties.
Hot Gas (Air) Extrusion Welding
Extrusion welding of plastic involves;
?weld preparation on the plastic component
?hot gas (air) is used to heat the substrate material
?continuously extruding molten thermoplastic material
In Extrusion Welding, a molten polymer is generated inside the welding gun and extruded into the weld joint as the gun is moved along the weld. A thermoplastic rod is fed into the rear of the extrusion barrel and the material is heated as it is drawn through the barrel by the rotating extruder screw. Molten thermoplastic is continuously ejected through a PTFE shoe attached to the front of the extrusion barrel.
